A graduate of the University of Minnesota with an undergraduate degree in political science, Adam Schwarze is a lieutenant in the United States Navy. Stationed currently in Honolulu, Hawaii, Adam Schwarze was initially recruited as a Naval Special Warfare Officer.

Last year, the US Navy announced a new retention bonus for its Naval Special Warfare (NSW) Officers. According to a November 2020 naval administration release, NSW officers who meet certain requirements can earn a bonus of up to $125,000 in exchange for reenlisting. The offer applies to those with designators 1130 or 1137 who have experienced at least 15 years of active-duty commissioned service.

Depending on their designator, command-eligible NSW officers can receive between $7,500 and $25,000 annually. Five-year agreements afford either $12,000 or $25,000 annually, while three-year ones provide $7,500 or $12,000 annually. To qualify for the maximum amount of $125,000, officers must commit to a five-year reenlistment period and have designator 1130. Moreover, the Navy will grant retention bonuses to those with this designator and 20 to 22 years of active-duty service who sign up for another three years, regardless of their command-eligibility status.
