A Look at the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program

Based in Honolulu, Adam Schwarze spent 10 years in the US Marine Corps prior to becoming a lieutenant in the US Navy. While serving in the Marines, Adam Schwarze was one of 5 percent of applicants chosen for the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program (MECEP).

MECEP is a program designed to support the education of exemplary Marines. After gaining acceptance into the competitive program, participants take a 10-week Officer Candidates School (OCS) course. While pursuing their chosen degree, Marines participate in Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) units at the host university.

Upon successful completion of the program, Marines earn a baccalaureate degree and a commission in the US Marine Corps. In order to be eligible for MECEP, Marines must be between the ages of 20 and 35. In addition, they need to have accumulated three years of service and have at least one year remaining on their contract. Academic requirements include a minimum SAT score of 1000 or a minimum ACT score of 22.
